Hetzner (Hetzner Online GmbH) is a German company specializing in providing very famous Server / Cloud VPS services in Europe. XIn terms of reliability, Hetzner is one of the famous server service providers in Europe, on par with OVH – the largest server provider in Europe and the third in the world. However, because Hetzner only has datacenters in Germany and Finland, little is known outside of Europe.
Previously, I knew Hetzner through Auction Dedicated Server services with super cheap prices. Later, because there was no longer a need for Dedicated Server, he rarely used Hetzner, until this party opened a Cloud VPS service with a super cheap price.
The advantage of Hetzner Cloud is that the service price is much cheaper than Digital Ocean, Vultr, Linode or UpCloud. But the configuration is extremely strong, outperforming the competition: all VPS are equipped with Xeon Gold CPU / AMD EPYC hard drive NVMe SSD same super fast immense bandwidth 20TB (other services only for 1TB).
Update: From September 1, 2021, Hetzner has increased the price of the CX11 package by €3.49 and CPX11 up €3.99
The cheapest Hetzner Cloud package is available only €2.49 €3.49≈ $4.1 ≈ 95,000 VND with very good configuration 1vCPU – 2GB RAM – 20GB NVMe SSD.

VPS of Hetzner divided into 2 types
- CX: Balance between CPU and RAM, using Intel® Xeon® Gold processor
- CPX: Optimize CPU power with AMD EPYC 2nd Gen . processors
Here is a price comparison of Hetzner Cloud compared to other popular Cloud Server services
vCPU | RAM | SSD | Bandwidth | Price/month | |
Hetzner CX11 | 1 vCPU | 2GB | 20GB NVMe | 20 TB | €3.49 ($4.15) |
Hetzner CPX11 | 2 vCPU | 2GB | 40GB NVMe | 20 TB | €3.99 ($4.74) |
DigitalOcean | 1 vCPU | 1GB | 25GB NVMe | 1 TB | $6 |
Vultr HF | 1 vCPU | 1GB | 32GB NVMe | 1 TB | $6 |
UpCloud | 1 vCPU | 1GB | 25GB SSD | 1 TB | $5 |
Linode | 1 vCPU | 1GB | 25GB SSD | 1 TB | $5 |
For only $4.15 / month you have VPS with 2GB RAM configuration at Hetzner with 20 TB Bandwidth. While with other services with $5 – $6 you only get VPS 1GB RAM and 1TB Bandwidth. Particularly Digital Ocean and Vultr have VPS packages equipped NVMe SSD can compete with Hetzner, while UpCloud and Linode are only equipped with conventional SSDs.
If you use the Hetnzer CPX11 plan for $4.74/month, you can upgrade to 2 vPCUs and 40GB NVMe SSD. Unbeatable configuration for the price.

Benchmark YABS
Are the cheap ones yours? Let’s test it out
First, I used the Yet-Another-Batch-Script benchmark script
curl -sL yabs.sh | bash
I will test with 5 VPS of Hetzner, Digital Ocean, Vultr and UpCloud, all created at Datacenter in Germany for fairness
- Hetzner CX11: 1 vCPU – 2GB RAM – 20GB NVMe SSD – 20TB Bandwidth
- Hetzner CPX11: 2 vPCU – 2GB RAM – 40GB NVMe SSD – 20TB Bandwidth
- DigitalOcean: 1 vCPU – 1GB RAM – 25GB NVMe SSD – 1TB Bandwidth
- Vultr: 1 vCPU – 1GB RAM – 32GB NVMe SSD – 1TB Bandwidth
- UpCloud: 1 vCPU – 1GB RAM – 25GB SSD – 1TB Bandwidth
Hetzner CX11

Evaluate
Compare SSD read and write speed

Hetzner’s NVMe SSD gives outstanding read speed at block sizes 64k, 512k and 1m, UpCloud because it only uses regular SSDs should be far behind. At Block size 4k, Vultr is far superior to its competitors.
Hetzner’s network speed is extremely impressive when many connections exceed the 1 Gbit/s mark, thereby showing that Hetzner’s datacenter is equipped with a transmission line of up to 10 Gbps.

Single Core: Hetzner CPX11’s Geekbench score comes out on top.
Multi Core: Only Hetzner CPX11 has 2 vCPUs, so a clear superiority can be seen.

Evaluate
This part I only pay attention to the CPU parameters

Except for the significantly slower CX11, the rest of the VPSs all have similar processing speeds.
Epilogue
There is not a big difference in speed between the VPSs of Hetzner, UpCloud, Digital Ocean and Vultr that I used in today’s benchmark. However, Hetzner clearly prevails thanks to the attractive price:
VPS CPX11 – $4.74/month for 2 vCPU configuration, 2GB RAM, NVMe SSD and 20TB Bandwidth. Benchamark parameters show that the network speed, SSD, CPU of CPX11 are equivalent or superior to VPS of UpCloud, Digital Ocean, and Vultr priced at $5 – $6/month.
The disadvantage of Hetzner is that it does not have a datacenter in Singapore like its competitors. This will make many of you hesitate to choose Hetzner’s VPS for sites aimed at the Vietnamese market.
If you need a powerful VPS with the cheapest price, Hetzner is a great choice. Besides the cheap price, Hetzner also has a very enthusiastic support team and absolute stability.
I am currently using 2 Hetzner VPS and have never had any downtime. Access speed from Vietnam is still fast
- 1 server CPX11 located in Datacenter Helsinki, Finland.
- 1 CX11 server located in Datacenter Nuremberg, Germany

In addition, Hetzner’s VPS with a huge bandwidth advantage – 20TB Bandwidth can also be used as a personal VPN. You can install Wireguard or Outline VPN on CX11 server for $2.8/month and use it freely.
Long article ends here. If you find the article useful, you can register to use VPS of Hetzner, UpCloud, DigitalOcean and Vultr by following my aff link below. Thank you.
Sign up for Hetzner Cloud and get €20 Credits to try out the service
Sign up for UpCloud and get a $25 trial right away. See Reviews UpCloud
Sign up for a Vultr account and get a $100 trial right away.
Sign up for a DigitalOcean account and get a $100 60-day trial.
Register for an account Hetzner
It should be noted that after signing up for an account, Hetzner will ask you to confirm your identity. You must complete this verification step before you can create Hetzner’s Cloud Server / Dedicated Server service.
Back in 2018 when I created an account, Hetzner asked to send a photo of Passport and add a selfie photo holding Passport facing out for comparison. I followed the request and the account was confirmed after only 1 day.
Does Hetzner ban new accounts from Vietnam?
I contacted Hetzner Support directly to ask about this issue. And the answer is that Hetzner still allows new accounts from Vietnam. As long as you complete the required account verification and identity verification steps.
